Donald Trump’s presidency is going to be vastly different from Barack Obama’s in, oh, so many ways. A very visual change is about to take place in the Oval Office.
The president-elect is a man of class and respect. As such, Trump asked for the return of the Winston Churchill bust that Obama sent back to England when he felt the image of the iconic leader just caused too much clutter in the Oval Office.
Obama put a bust of Martin Luther King Jr. in place of Winston Churchill. The Oval Office is quite a spacious room—surely there was room enough to keep the kind gift from our NATO ally AND add a display to honor the slain Civil Rights leader?
It seems there is a lot more to the removal of the Winston Churchill bust than merely a space issue.
Many, including British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson, seem to feel Obama has a deep-seeded hatred of both American and British imperialism, especially the leaders and actions of the early 20th century.
Johnson is quoted as saying the “part-Kenyan” President Obama had intentionally removed the Winston Churchill bust from the Oval Office due to his “ancestral dislike of the British Empire,” the Telegraph reports. Churchill was the prime minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 – the World War II years – and again from 1951 to 1955.
The Winston Churchill bust was presented to George W. Bush in 2001 by British Prime Minister Tony Blair after the September 11 attacks. During a recent meeting in New York City with Johnson, the president-elect’s adviser and son-in-law, along with Steve Bannon, asked to have the bust returned to the White House, the Daily Wire notes.
London officials were reportedly happy to comply with the request by President-elect Trump. “The prime minister is happy to loan the Churchill bust to the White House and will be delighted to view it on display when she visits this spring,” said a spokesman for Prime Minister Theresa May.
Brexit leader Nigel Farage is believed to have chatted with Donald Trump about the Winston Church bust, among many other things of course, during their meeting in November. Farage, the leader of the Independence Party, tweeted after the meeting: “Especially pleased at @realDonaldTrump‘s very positive reaction to idea that Sir Winston Churchill’s bust should be put back in Oval Office.”
Barack Obama made it a habit to insult our allies throughout his tenure in the White House. His disrespectful treatment of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu culminated during the recent United Nations Security Council vote where he ordered the American ambassador to the U.N. to abstain from a vote that attacked our only true friend in the Middle East.
Obama loathed the concept of American exceptionalism, but Donald Trump embraces it. In just a few more days, a true patriot will inhabit the Oval Office again, and he will smile at the Winston Churchill bust as he gets busy with the hard work it will take to make America great again!
