Democrat Michigan Senate nominee Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed (aka Abdul El-Sayed) suggested to a group of supporters last year that America creates terrorism.
“I think the approach that we’ve often taken with terrorism has been to figure out how to leverage the might of the U.S. military to go in and root out, right, certain terrorist organizations, et cetera. And where that’s necessary, that’s necessary. But I also think we need to be curious about why those things happen in the first place. Like, what drives somebody to want to commit such a heinous act?

Trump Admin Makes Major Change To State Sponsor Of Terror List
The United States formally removed Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism, ending a designation that had remained in place since 1979 and clearing a major obstacle to foreign investment as the country attempts to rebuild after nearly 14 years of civil war.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Monday that he had formally rescinded Syria’s designation following the completion of a mandatory 45-day congressional notification period. The Treasury Department simultaneously removed Islamist paramilitary group Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) from its list of specially designated global terrorists.
The decision marks a dramatic reversal in Washington’s relationship with Damascus following the fall of longtime Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad in December 2024. Syria had originally been designated a state sponsor of terrorism in 1979 under Assad’s father, Hafez al-Assad, in large part because of the regime’s support for Palestinian militant organizations.
“Rescinding Syria’s designation as an SST and HTS’ designation as an SDGT eliminates the final major barriers for private sector investment in Syria and promotes Syria’s economic recovery and reintegration into the global economy,” Rubio wrote in his announcement on X.
Bessent Says U.S. Pressure Is Working As Iran Faces Economic Strain
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Iran’s leadership is acknowledging the economic pressure facing the country as the Trump administration intensifies its campaign against Tehran.
“Iran’s leadership is admitting what the world can now see: the pressure is working,” Bessent said.
Bessent pointed to comments from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who recently said, “The war must come to an end at some point,” as well as Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who warned that military strength alone cannot sustain the country if its people are struggling economically.
President Trump: All Mines Removed From Strait Of Hormuz
President Donald Trump announced Tuesday morning that all mines have been removed from the Strait of Hormuz.
“I have just been informed by the United States Navy that all mines have been removed and/or detonated from within the International Waters of the Strait of Hormuz,” the president announced in a Truth Social post on Tuesday.
“Iran has been notified that any ship or boat placing new mines will be immediately and systematically destroyed,” he added. “Through Space Force, we are watching every square inch of the Strait, as we are, also, with Pickaxe Mountain and the already destroyed three other Nuclear sites.”
China Warns U.S. Not To Disrupt Trade With Iran
China is pushing back against the Trump administration’s new sanctions campaign against Iran, saying its economic relationship with Tehran is lawful and should not be disrupted.
Speaking to reporters in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian reaffirmed China’s opposition to unilateral sanctions that lack a basis in international law or approval from the U.N. Security Council.
“Economic warfare and extreme pressure do not help solve problems; they only further intensify conflicts, cause risks to spill over, disrupt the global economic and financial order, and harm the legitimate rights and interests of other countries,” Lin said, adding that China’s cooperation with Iran has “always been conducted within the framework of international law and should not be disrupted or undermined.”
Second lady Usha Vance fires back at pointed jab from Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed
Second lady Usha Vance responded to what critics described as a “racist” dig from Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, who appeared to question how Vice President JD Vance’s grandfather would have regarded her.
The exchange began after Vance criticized El-Sayed’s views on Sharia law during a rally in Ohio, arguing the practice would be completely alien to his grandfather, whom he calls his “Papaw.”
"He once argued, not too long ago, that criticisms of Sharia law were rooted in White supremacy," Vance said of El-Sayed, the American-born son of Muslim Egyptian immigrants.
“I’d love to go back in time and tell my Papaw that there is a man who claims to stand for working people who says not only should we have Sharia law, but if you criticize it, you’re a White supremacist. That’s not my Papaw’s Democratic Party, my friends,” the vice president continued.
Responding to the vice president’s jab, El-Sayed wrote: “So do we think JD is taking Usha with him back in time to meet Papaw, or no…”
JD was raised in large part by his grandparents, James and Bonnie Vance, who he calls his “Papaw” and “Mamaw.” James died in 1997 and Bonnie died eight years later.
Usha and JD met while attending Yale Law School and married in 2014. Although she never met her husband’s late grandparents, the mother of four said her husband’s aunt has become a “second mother” to her.
“His aunt is like a second mother to me,” said the second lady. “And so I have to think that if they raised children like that, they would have been loving as well. And I would have really, really, really loved to have met them.”
