Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Tuesday that the United States could reach an agreement with Iran on the Strait of Hormuz within the next 24 hours.

Speaking with CNBC, Bessent said a deal could come as soon as Tuesday or Wednesday that would reopen the strategic waterway and move the conflict toward a more stable footing. He argued that recent U.S. military operations significantly weakened Iran’s air force, navy, missile arsenal, and missile production capabilities, creating the conditions for negotiations.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Tuesday that negotiations involving Iran and Oman have made progress toward reopening the Strait of Hormuz, but cautioned that the sides have not yet reached a final agreement.

Speaking to reporters at the State Department, Rubio said discussions are moving in the right direction and expressed hope that an agreement could be reached soon.

“There’s been progress made in those talks, but not finality yet,” Rubio said. “We’re hoping that will happen very shortly.”

Democratic Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong responded to a question on whether she still believes Thanksgiving should be canceled as she had previously tweeted by saying that she has cooked Thanksgiving meals, “But Thanksgiving is also a time that’s incredibly painful for many people in our communities. And so, I think there, I wanted to make sure that people understood that there are multiple views, but views can evolve.”

Cori Bush Wants ‘Trans Rights,’ ‘Abortion Rights’ Enshrined in Constitution

Former Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) said that if voters return her to Congress, she will fight to enshrine “abortion rights” and “trans rights” in the United States Constitution through the Equal Rights Amendment.

Bush laid out the plan during an appearance on The Lurie Daniel Favors Show, telling the SiriusXM Urban View host that she wants to fight for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) and make it the 28th amendment. The interview posted to Favors’ YouTube channel on July 29, days before Missouri’s Democrat primary.

Bush said reviving the amendment would be a priority if she wins back her old seat.

“I’m also going to go back and fight for the Equal Rights Amendment. I was the lead sponsor, along with my sister Ayanna Pressley, in the Congress. First time in history,” Bush said. “We hit the 100-year mark of the introduction of the Equal Rights Amendment, and two black women were sponsoring that bill.”

Bush framed the ERA as the mechanism for locking in a range of left-wing policy priorities, including transgender and abortion policy.

“When we look at the protections with that, discrimination in the workplace based upon sex, in education, in housing, and then also trans rights, abortion rights, so much is up under that equal rights amendment,” Bush said. “So enshrining gender equality is important.”

DOJ charges 19 defendants in alleged $4M Philadelphia Medicare and Medicaid fraud

The Justice Department announced Tuesday that it is expanding its Northeast Health Care Fraud Strike Force to Philadelphia as federal and state authorities target alleged Medicare and Medicaid fraud involving home health care services.

The expansion will establish a strike force office in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and bring together the Justice Department’s National Fraud Enforcement Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the district.

In connection with the announcement, federal and Pennsylvania authorities charged 19 defendants accused of participating in schemes involving more than $4 million in claims submitted to Medicare and Medicaid, according to a DOJ release. The defendants include home health care company owners, employees, purported aides and Medicaid recipients.

“The Fraud Division’s expansion into the Eastern District of Pennsylvania brings enhanced federal resources to a district with an established tradition of strong health care fraud enforcement,” the DOJ said. “The partnership between the Fraud Division and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania will uniquely enable law enforcement to combat criminals who hide behind corporations to commit fraud.”

The cases include allegations that home health aides billed Medicaid for services while they were incarcerated, hospitalized, working other jobs or traveling overseas. In another case, prosecutors said a Medicaid recipient claimed to require extensive home health assistance while also working as a carpenter.
