U.S. and Canada Fail to Reach Trade Pact to Avert Trump Tariffs

Hefty U.S. tariffs on some Canadian products took effect on Saturday after days of negotiations that went down to the wire failed to produce an agreement.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney vowed that his country will match the U.S. tariffs “dollar for dollar to protect our workers and businesses,” as officials said late Friday that Washington and Ottawa had not managed to strike a deal.

Canada has been seeking relief from Trump’s tariffs on autos, steel and aluminum, which have battered the country’s economy, forced job losses and strained what was once an iron-clad trade relationship.

Carney has repeatedly told Canadians that relations with the United States have been forever changed, regardless of what happens with an individual trade deal.

He says the country must diversify and reduce its reliance on the United States, which currently accounts for roughly 70 percent of Canadian exports.

Karoline Leavitt reveals next role after leaving White House press secretary post

Karoline Leavitt confirmed Friday she will return to President Donald Trump’s

super PAC, MAGA Inc., after leaving her post in the administration.

Leavitt, 28, told reporters aboard Air Force One that she plans to work for MAGA Inc., a Trump-aligned super PAC, though she did not specify her title or responsibilities.

The move sends Leavitt back to a familiar political operation. She served as a spokesperson for MAGA Inc. before joining Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign and later becoming White House press secretary.

“You guys will still see me all the time,” Leavitt told reporters on Friday, signaling she intends to remain active in Trump’s political orbit as Republicans gear up for the midterm elections.

Leavitt said Friday’s trip was her last official Air Force One flight as press secretary.

“Serving as the White House Press Secretary over the past year and a half has been the honor and adventure of a lifetime,” Leavitt wrote.

Leavitt became the youngest White House press secretary in history when Trump returned to office in January 2025.

Abdul El-Sayed Again Attacks JD Vance’s Marriage After VP Criticizes MI Democrat’s Stance on Sharia Law

Michigan’s radical left Democrat U.S. Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, who is Muslim, became hot under the collar when he misunderstood comments Vice President JD Vance made about Sharia law and his own grandfather. The Democrat also pointedly attacked Vance’s marriage.

“El-Sayed, this guy running for senate in Michigan, he once argued not too long ago that criticisms of Sharia law were rooted in white supremacy. I’d love to go back in time and tell my Papaw that there’s a man who claims to stand for working people who says not only should we have Sharia law, but if you criticize it you’re a white supremacist. That’s not my Papaw’s Democrat Party, my friends,” Vance said during a recent speech to American workers:

In his social media post on Saturday, El-Sayed wrote “So do we think JD is taking Usha with him back in time to meet Papaw, or no…”

Vance’s wife, Usha, and her family are Hindu and would not impose Sharia law on Americans.

El-Sayed later responded to Vance’s comments during an interview, stating “He’s painting this picture of going back in time to talk to his Papaw, about me. Now why is he pointing to me? Why is Donald Trump pointing to me? They’re pointing to me to try and say somehow I’m less of an American than they are. What does that have to do with? I don’t know, the color of my skin, how I pray? But the confusing thing about it is that he thinks there are some people who are more American than others because they can point to their Papaw who was here earlier.”

“And my question to him is simply why is it… how do you look your parents-in-law in the eye and say that somehow they’re less American than you are. Because that’s what he’s implying there,” he added

Karmelo Anthony Denied New Murder Trial

A Texas judge on Saturday dealt a crushing blow to convicted killer Karmelo Anthony, denying his bid for a new murder trial for fatally stabbing Austin Metcalf in the heart at a high school track meet.

Judge Michael Chitty rejected Anthony’s motion for a new trial following a two-day hearing after the judge who oversaw his murder conviction was removed from the case, local media reported..

Saturday’s ruling marks a major setback for Anthony’s appellate team, which cited several alleged errors during the trial, including claims that prosecutors violated a secret agreement with Anthony’s trial defense team to keep certain evidence including allegations of racism and violence from being presented to jurors.

Tom Homan fires back at Florida Democrat over ‘ridiculous’ ICE racial profiling claim

Border czar Tom Homan rejected Florida Democratic Senate nominee Angie Nixon’s warning that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents would racially profile Black Americans, calling the accusation “ridiculous” and insisting immigration agents do not target people based on skin color.

“We don’t arrest people based on the color of their skin. I’m actually an equal opportunity deporter. I deported people to 180 countries last year,” Homan said on “Saturday in America.”

“I don’t care if you’re from Asia, you’re from Europe or you’re from other countries. If you’re in the country illegally, you will be deported, regardless of the color of your skin,” he added.

Nixon, who recently won Florida’s Democratic primary, lists ending detention centers and abolishing ICE among her key policy priorities, arguing that mass incarceration and mass deportation are “moral failures.”

She also argues ICE “cannot be trusted with the power it has” and that the agency’s “terror tactics” should be dismantled, according to her campaign website.

“It’s just lie, after lie, after lie, to try to vilify the men and women of ICE,” Homan said.

Nixon made additional remarks on a recent episode of the “QNA: Questions Need Answers” podcast, where she said Republicans are “literally trying to kill us” and further criticized ICE.

Homan doubled down in defense of the federal immigration agency, maintaining that agents follow the law when conducting enforcement operations.

“That’s a ridiculous statement,” Homan said. “We don’t racially profile. Everybody we talk to, we have reasonable suspicion of aliens to talk to them and to arrest them we need probable cause. That’s what the law says. And that’s what we do.”
