The Trump administration on Monday announced sweeping new banking rules aimed at cracking down on lending to illegal immigrants, requiring lenders to consider that borrowers without legal work authorization may pose “elevated credit risk,” a move that supporters say could improve housing affordability for Americans.
A recent working paper from economists at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas found that illegal immigration substantially increased local housing demand from 2021 through 2024. An inflow of unauthorized workers equal to one percent of local employment was associated with a 2.2 percent increase in home prices and a 1.4 percent increase in rents.
The economists attributed roughly 30 percent of home-price growth and 20 percent of rent growth in the average local market to illegal immigrant inflows during the period. They found little evidence that housing construction increased enough to meet the added demand, undermining a key argument made by proponents of the Biden administration’s open borders policies.

President Donald Trump said on Monday that he believes the late Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) would be best honored if his sister, Darline Graham Nordone, were to be appointed to serve out the remainder of his term in the U.S. Senate.
Graham died late Saturday night after what his office called a “brief and sudden illness” and what the Washington, D.C., Medical Examiner’s Office later said was an aortic dissection. Governor Henry McMaster (R-SC) is now charged with appointing someone to replace him for the rest of his current term, which ends in January 2027. An announcement is expected on Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET.
“I recommended, to Governor Henry McMaster, Lindsey Graham’s wonderful sister, Darline, to serve as interim Senator from the Great State of South Carolina,” Trump posted Monday on his Truth Social platform. “This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!”
Leftist Comedian Celebrates Death Of Lindsey Graham, Hopes For More
Stand-up comedian Margaret Cho posted a video on her Instagram mocking the death of South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and expressing her hope that another prominent Republican will die next.
The 57-year-old celeb said in the video, “Bye, Lindsey Graham … bye, Lindsey! From the closet to the coffin, real seamless,” referencing rumors that the senator was secretly gay.
“Um, also, yeah Mitch McConnell,” she went on. “So, it’s Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham … it does happen in threes. Hope!”
Cho is believed to be indicating that the third “death” would be President Trump. Senator McConnell (R-KY), however, is not actually dead. On the same day Cho’s video was shared, McConnell posted a proof of life photo and message from his hospital bed and promised that he “still has unfinished business to complete” following his recovery from a fall and a bout of pneumonia.
Trump says US will charge 20% fee for Strait of Hormuz passage, reinstate Iran blockade
President Donald Trump says the U.S. will begin charging a fee for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz beginning “immediately” Monday.
Trump wrote on Truth Social that the the U.S. is serving as the “Guardian of the Hormuz Strait” and deserves “fair” compensation for playing the role. He also announced the return of the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports.
“The Hormuz Strait is OPEN, and will remain OPEN, with or without Iran. We are reinstating the THE IRANIAN BLOCKADE, so named because it is only stopping Iran’s ships or customers from entering or leaving. All other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait,” Trump wrote.
“The U.S.A. will be, from this point forward, known as ‘THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT,’ but as such, and as a matter of FAIRNESS, will be reimbursed, at the rate of 20% on all cargo shipped, for any and all costs necessary to do the job of providing safety and security to this very volatile section of the World. The process and formation will begin immediately,” he added.
Lindsey Graham left behind modest wealth despite decades in Washington’s elite circles
Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham served in Congress for more than three decades, but public disclosure estimates show he died with a modest net worth compared to many of his longtime Washington colleagues.
The senator died with a net worth of about $1.4 million, with congressional disclosures from May showing a lower-end estimate of just over $600,000 and an upper estimate of a little more than $2.2 million, according to financial disclosures he filed in May. Despite serving in Congress for 31 years, Graham ranked at 294th in wealth among the 535 voting members of Congress, according to data from the Quiver Quantitative.
Graham died at age 71, meaning that his net worth at the end was relatively normal. Individuals between the ages of 65 and 74 have an average net worth of $1.79 million and a median net worth of $409,900, according to Fidelity.
Trump praises Lindsey Graham as senator whose Kavanaugh fight changed Supreme Court history

President Donald Trump paid tribute to his longtime friend Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., on Monday, remembering him as a “great guy” whose passionate defense of Brett Kavanaugh during his Supreme Court confirmation fight helped change the course of history.
“He was a great guy, and he was a friend,” the president recalled on “Fox & Friends.”
“He would call me all the time. He would just, I’d say, ‘Stop calling me, Lindsey,’” he laughed. “It was just... amazing.”
“If I had Democrat problems, he could solve them. He was a man of all different abilities, actually, and he was a nice man. He was a great guy...” he said.
“He was a man who had a lot of fun. He had fun with politics, but he was really good at it. And then, when he got angry, like he did in the case of Brett Kavanaugh, it was so impactful. I think it saved… Brett becoming a justice.”

Trump’s comment referenced Graham’s fervent remarks before the Senate Judiciary Committee, blasting what he called the “unethical sham” hearing involving Kavanaugh, who was later confirmed to the Supreme Court.
Since Graham’s passing, many have highlighted his passionate defense of Kavanaugh as one of the defining moments of his political career.
“It was just a moment in time that the Democrats got so sick and so angry and so crazy... and Lindsey went on his tirade, and it was much more than a tirade. I think it was one of the great[est] 10 moments of Congress, if you want to know the truth,” Trump said.
